Question about allies

I cleared out a bunch of my allies the other day and noticed that it says I have 16/50 - but when I physically count them up on the list, I only have 7.

How does / or is this supposed to work?

    This. Pending invites count "against" the total.

    I beat the REAL T7 Yoda (not the nerfed one) and did so before mods were there to help
