Where have the keycards gone? I can't open a keycard event without a keycard

They are replacing them with event battles after the patch. The first event will go live on 11/2/2016.

True, but I thought the events would be fixed so they didn't need cards. However, mine is still asking for the key cards, which are gone, lol.

The new events are not implemented until a back-end update this afternoon. Until then you simply can't access them unless you have a hoard of keycards already.

It is 11/2 on the Australian-time based servers.
