I think speed almost exclusively is key for Old Ben to be effective...
You don't even care if he dies honestly (and you get free buffs out of it) because after his first 2 moves he's borederline useless in most fights.
Make him as fast as possible to get mind tricks on the other team... or alternatively use a faster character like Jyn on Thrawn to transfer TM to him so he can move before the other team does (this is only useful on offense however)
Then hopefully he can taunt pretty quickly after and fulfill his destiny of dying for "the cause"
