CLS stun on basic - bug? (IGNORE, my bad)

I am wondering if I am seeing things. I run CLS along with Zader on my one account. Works quite well - the reason I do it is to have Vader lay down speed down from which CLS can then stun on basic.
Problem is - CLS seems to only stun on basic once HE HIMSELF has applied speed down. Consistently (and I have tried this in Rancor, GW and Arena) when Vader lays down speed down, CLS has to first do a basic to same toon and land speed down before next hit will stun.
Is it my imagination - some sort of confirmation bias? I do presume the stun has to go through a resistance/tenacity check as well?
EDIT: forget it, blonde moment. Read the ability again and stun is the effect of the Defense down, removes TM on speed down

Will have to run him under Tarkin to achieve what I want to achieve I suppose.
