We are about to attempt the heroic tank but I am concerned about damage overlap. Say if I attacked in first phase at the same time as someone else and we both scored 2 mil, would it only count for the 2 mil or 4 mil?
Damage against the tank is registered when a team is defeated or the raid is complete. The only time damage doesn't count is if you're in a phase and someone else finishes that phase. You get credit for the damage but it's wasted effort. Just communicate who's going in when when their done whenever the phase is at 20% or less.

The damage does get summed up in a single phase, so in your scenario it would be 4m dmg
