Buy gear or farm?

In general what is more economical: use crystals on refreshes to farm gear pieces or save the crystals and buy the gear from the shop?

I prefer to save and buy for purple gear, keeping my energy for shard farming. That way I know exactly what I'm getting gear-wise. But I'm patient, I have a good Arena team and I'm slowly building others up.

Save your crystals - that way if you need to panic farm you are stocked up and if you have enough spare you can get a bit of gear

It's typically more economical to use the crystals to refresh energy to farm your gear than to buy the gear at 1400 or more. There are some exceptions, though.
