Two vaults would've gotten you a 7* Talzin immediately with the 1299 gamble packs whens she first came out.
You can refresh the nodes for 10 more shards each time the event comes back. So 1 year if you want to spend some coin.
If you don't want to spend money then yeah, 2 years.
She's totally usable in arena at 4* though.
He's not even useful now and he's still 1-2 years farm away.

Seriously though. I get MT, she is a necessary part of the new competitive NS squad. But Wicket? Absolutely no incentive to spend real-life or in-game resources on getting him.
Make a new activity, slap a super desirable reward in there (like the latest meta defining character), and make Wicket a requirement. Now he's "useful."
If it isn't that, it'll be something like platoons requiring fifteen 7* Wickets, the laziest remedy for uncommon characters that are useless. Make him useful by requiring him to be placed on a bingo card that removes him from combat options.

Playing this game for 2 years lol. What he’s describing here is pretty much CGs standard MO.
It’s purely a guess but is reasonable when you consider past history. For ROTJ Luke it wouldn’t be unreasonable to guess that you’ll need hermit yoda, cls, Chan, rolo and a fifth toon. R2 was cls, bb8 for jtrey, why not 3po for ROTJ Luke? He. You think hmm ewoks and 3po on Endor and it could be.... fits with their past modus operandi.
The worst it has been so far was the rey event. If that hypothetical 3cpo event hits soon, that's quite a leap in difficulty to obtain a special character.

shouldn't have used a relative term, but april may-ish is still a rather large leap in difficulty. With the current rate of getting wicket shards, the hypothetical event hitting next year would still be a leap in difficulty.

i'm not worried, i think you're wrong. It doesn't really fit their MO. Sure, they make events difficult to entice spending, but not that difficult. By the time the event hits for the 2nd time, most dedicated f2p players are able to 7* the character in question, if not the first time the event hits. (i only missed yoda, bb8 and chimeara the first time around)
