Was he on break from Smuggling? Why doesn't he get to be a Smuggler?

So what about St han ? Him and Chewie smuggled in Luke , old Ben and droids in New Hope. Further what about adult Lando ? That wasn’t Young Lando in Star Wars Rebels ? He was smuggling space pigs or something.
