Dark side ships for platoons

I have this question, although I guess some of you probably asked, but I could not find a post related to it. Why do we need to deploy dark side ships on the ship section in territory battles the Rear Airspace Mission if its a rebel related battle?

Ds tb needs ls ships. I feel like the ship roster is still too small to reasonably fill out 6 platoons and still have enough ships to beat the combat mission.
