Question about GA placement

I know the placement system will put players of similar GP together, but is it done according to a specific set of numbers such as 1.5 million to 2 million, 2 million to 2.5 million and so on or is it generalized? I.e 8 people that are as close as possible in GP?

I ask because im at the 2 million borderline and really don't want to fight against 7 people who could all be closer to 2.5 million, but i also dont wanna cheese and lower my GP if it is indeed against players of similar GP.

If you are at 1950000 you will be placed with people around 195000 +/- 1000

As close as possible. If you go into the Event Rewards screen you can view the profiles of all 8 players in your bracket. In the brackets I have tracked, the GP difference lowest to highest was a fraction of one percent.

Unfortunately it's based on total GP even when there are no fleet zones. They are going to change that but no word on when that change will be in place.

Roughly this.

There doesnt seem to be any course grouping or step function to the groups. It is just a group with almost identical GPs.
