Levelling up SO

I just finished 7 staring darth sideous and am now working on levelling up SO, was wondering if I should level him up to 5 or 6 stars before levelling him up that way I can get the most use of his levelling up? Higher growth modifiers per level. Or just use him now and level him up as I go. I use chewbacca now just as a filler until I have SO to a useable level
