You can't abuse the bug as it only happens to a defensive Magnaguard. It requires Magnaguard to take his bonus turn and kill the last remaining attacking toons in that bonus turn (magna hits like a wet noodle even on the bonus turn so it won't happen very often).
It's only possible to encounter the bug in an offensive setting where you've allowed a weak character to kill your last standing toon. The only thing the opponent did was use a toon in a team it has synergy with. If you let Magnaguard kill your last toon during his bonus turn (If he just kills your last toon and it wasn't during his almost dead bonus turn no bug occurs) you're doing something wrong.
Annihilate still defeats him after the bug happens though, just not attacks that deal damage.
