Figured with so many squads to focus on and so little resources for f2p an alt to do what I didn't couldn't or won't do on main seemed like a good idea.
A lot of ppl have them because they want to do things better, but are too invested in their main to abandon it. Also they may have access to a strong guild to build up faster than the first time
Others, I have seen, just like to play different squads they didn't farm on their main, and still can't while keeping up with the meta.
I like my alt better than my main. Started an alt alt 4 days ago and am pleased with the results. Don't get me wrong my man is good my man is strong but I've done twice as much progress with my first off and half the time.
