I just want Jedi Knight Luke. The one character that started me loving SW when I went to see RotJ in 83 when i was 5. The one character that has been on every title screen art but not in the game. How long are they gonna keep that toon on the backburner?

i always like the "you've had plenty of time" argument. not necessarily. you cant just stop farming for one thing and shift towards something else. you definitely won't get anywhere that way. especially after they dropped daily ls/ds battles down to 5 again and you have terrible drop rates like badstila, juhani, carth to name a few. i've gone for a week or more not getting a badstila shard, even on a refresh daily. unless you get top rewards in raids or arenas, you simply do not have the resources to necessitate "you've had plenty of time." the only way to do that is to pay ridiculous amounts of money. if those people want to spend that kind of money on nontangible things, so be it, but telling someone they've had plenty of time is just asinine because it's based on YOUR perception of time spending like a whale or worse.
Actually that's exactly what you do. So per you I should keep continuing to farm imperial super trooper and not farm geo brood alpha.
When a new character is released, you reaccess your farms. How many people stopped farming whatever in January to start farming old republic? If you are inflexible, then it will certainly cost you money. Because you will be in major panic farm mode on legendary events.

Bounties and hmf have been out forever. You don't have to abandon farms to have done them by now.

I agree ships is stale. But your title is misleading, none of what you said suggests thinking outside the box, you just chose to NOT follow the META, which is a valid choice, but there wasn't much thinking or logic involved.

The drop rates are the same for all shards, so citing drop rates for F Bastila compared to others is useless. You’ve had more than enough time to farm for the Falcon, if you farm even remotely aggressively enough.

I don’t have Padme or the Falcon at 7*, but that doesn’t matter. Point is, you can do it without spending like a whale. Plenty of time.
Why not just get the ships now? Better late than never.
Thinking outside the box doesn't do a whole lot of good when all the food is in the box. There are lots of skeletons who died of starvation outside the box.

Your statement would be correct if they did something with ships besides an assault battle, quick TB battles that are autolosses even with G17 ships, a new capital locked behind a 15 month farm (yeah we get the wallet warriors probably have him unlock already) talking about majority of game here...
And another new capital coming no one knows how it will be released prob another 15 month farm or hopefully a legendary that we can get in 5 months second time around...

But dear lord ships is meh right now... the big solution was to release 2 big capitals (we all wanted BTW) which is good...but the transition from ships being a F2P heaven to instant JKR and DR ship meta is scary.
New ships have been released to people who most likey already have the pilots at G12+ so people who have invested everything into ships have to deal with people who are just given handout fleets (which may or not be good, it's good if it get's people involved in ships and leads to better things... it's not good if it's just a handout to the god players who ignored ships for 2 years
whatever... in the end if WHATEVER they decide to do with ships if it leads to more people playing, spending, and leading to more content then I can deal with whatever they do in the end.... we just want more ships and more content....

Getting crystals from Fleet is much easier than getting crystals from Squad Arena.
I went all in on fleet (and particularly BH ships) the moment the Falcon was announced, possibly even before that. I had to gear Bossk for TW anyway, so there was no point in not getting such a great ship. I'd floundered in ships before HT, but I took that opportunity and boosted my rank some - with KRU, Vader & Bossk my go-to pilots, toons I would have geared anyway. I got Falcon 5* the first time round and 7* the second time around. I've been taking 1st place in Fleet Arena almost every day since.
The average of better than 350 crystals per day makes every other farm go radically faster. My Cantina farms get 3 energy refreshes/day. My regular energy gets 3 refreshes per day. One or 2 hard nodes, depending how hard I'm farming and what I'm farming, also get 1 refresh/day.
That's a crystal budget of 550 crystals/day, but getting 400/day from fleet most days and another 50-75 from Arena was enough to make it work. I got Revan, DR, Padme, and Malak all on the 2nd try without even stressing about it. My Brood Alpha was the 3rd in my guild to reach 7*.
Yeah, for 3 months I lagged a little behind while I was pushing for Xanadu Blood and IG-2000 to reach 7*, but ever since then my farms have been dramatically faster than the vast majority of my guild-mates. Now I'm at 78/100 on my last Cantina Farm available, and I can start banking 300 (more) crystals/day, so instead of my crystal stash creeping up about 50/day, it will shoot up 350/day. I can use that for buying major gear pieces to rush the equipment on toons for the first time since I started playing this game. On top of that, Now I'm landing 40-80 in arena, and so my minimum crystal reward from squad arena is 100 instead of 50, and that's due to (almost) keeping up with the meta in a way that I couldn't possibly have done without winning Fleet every day.
Sure, they'll eventually release new toons to Cantina, but with no backlog I'll farm them like a boss and go back to stacking up insane amounts of crystals for gear purchases. I'm not that far out from having every single toon that I want at 7* (Gamorrean and Young Han I've skipped since I'd rather have the gear). Even the ones I don't want are almost all at 5* or higher.
And why?
Because I went all in on fleet.
It doesn't slow you down, it accelerates things massively. It's like trying to drive an overheating car gently at half the speed limit so you don't screw things up completely vs. stopping at the mechanic, fixing the engine, and then driving away at 10 over the limit. Too many people complain about the time it takes to get the engine working at full speed instead of noticing all the full speed cars that were behind them but are now passing them by.
The crystal budget is slowing you down because you dare not drain it too low, lest you not have any for some emergency or other. But if you actually got your fleet in shape, even if it took time away from other priorities, your crystal budget would double (if you're doing well in Squad) or triple (if your squad rank is worse than top 20).
But never mind. Don't bulk up in fleet. Just complain about how you can't compete because you're not willing to farm. That just guarantees that I'll stay on top of fleet forever. I suppose if everyone decided to get good in fleet it would be as hard to take 1st in fleet as it is in Squad.
So keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep doing fine.

97% of all top 10 ship squads, in the entire game, feature one or both HT or HMF, and 95% feature both.....

Coupled with if your in a guild doing Geo TB and you dont' have HT yet or are even farming it..... I could see you just getting booted on principal.
