what is the purpose of the Power score?

Just as the title states.
What is it for?
In the arena, my team is fairly regularly beat by teams that are 2-3000 points lower?
I have been under rank 20 many times playing the game, yet too often the Power means literally nothing.
Can someone please let me know why some teams can win with such lower gear/level/stars?

Power is supposed to be overall measurement of where the character is currently at based solely on stats. Not exact and definitely not accurate +/- couple thousand in total power is not a big deal to beat or lose to.

Power is not everything. There is also the little bit of strategy of who you attack first when you fire off specials, combination of abilities, team synergies are all not factor into power measurement.

Are you losing on offense to lower powered teams or defense? This also makes a difference because on defense the ai is stupid.
