Do many of you guys feel like you don't want to chase meta characters, because you just feel that as soon as you gear one up, they get nerfed or other characters get buffed to the point they are now useless?
For example I only have 4 poe shards even though he was the meta for a long time, and currently I keep getting afraid of levelling up GS mainly because he has been in the meta for such a long time now it feels inevitable that a nerf to this ridiculously OP character is just days away all the time. I only have him at 5* so it will still take me a good while to get him to an arena usable state, but I wonder to myself If I really should have farmed him a long time ago since he has been OP for such a very long time. Tanky, super fast, best cannon in the game.
But I am just too anxious to chase the meta that's been around for such a long time. Especially with such limited resources and the cap about to be raised.
Currently praying on the battle rework will make GS obsolete or at least not the most powerful since from the sounds of what they have planned no way is he going to be one-shotting everyone quickly any more.

For example, GS has been part of almost all of the meta's so far, so has Luminara (although there are better options and it is debatable). QGJ and FOTP are also part of the "meta" type teams.
If defensive teams get better with the battle rework maybe all my levelled up Jedi will be considered good haha =D
Now let's say a character I have sitting at level 1 becomes the new dooku, yeah I switch gears, but the truth of the matter is, being F2P, I cant afford to keep switching gears over meta anxiety. Just roll with the punches
Hacks!
What you're wishing for is for another hero to take GS's place. In that case, it may be a hero with similar ease of farm, some sort of unique attack kit, and synergy with other heroes who are similarly easy to farm. As GS has his spotlight, due to the fact that people farmed him and developed him to his full potential, battle rework will just move the spotlight to another hero. I wouldn't stop developing GS because he really is a unique hero. And with a battle re-work, Poe may very well return to the spotlight. I know resources are limited, but it's possible to do well with the heroes you focus on, and bring them to their max potential.
As for the op question, as has been said, build a solid roster and you'll be fine.
Currently I am farming Barriss, because even though nerfed, her long term viability is worth the effort. She may well be meta again, but it's her inherent value she currently has that makes her worth development.
Ive never dealt with such wild changes so frequently. Makes the game seem pretty dumb. I would like to know the things I am working on are going to still be good when I am finished. As it is going now, who knows?
I hope this most recent change is going to be the last of them.
Just to point out you can still do well without chasing the META. I personally do it. Ok I'm not number 1 but I hit between 10-20 and never arena crystal refresh.
Agree. We won't know what's happening with these toons for some time though!
You probably wont go wrong wit characters that have a decent kit and stats. Metas will change, so will the tactics. Im certainly not going to stress myself farming the flavour of the month. Add the shards for my Poe, Doku, Rey, FOTP and you wont even count past 20.. still I place top 20 every day. Maybe the next meta will even be in my favour with me having Fives and Kylo. Who knows.
D'oh! You got me before my edit!
I'm trying to gather a team that everyone calls an ally. In that instance, though, I'm having to follow the meta a bit because GS is one of those toons. So, in some situations, I wind up following the meta out of circumstance rather than deliberately.
It's still good enough to top my bracket, although it is frustrating seeing some of the silly combos I could easily put out if I broke my own code. I won't do it though!
Play the way you want, its more fun that way.
