Does the autodeploy still work in GAC ? I have tried it a long time ago and it was okay then.

If you don't set anything on the first fight, it simply fills in your top characters to fill the slots. Top 5 toons go to one team, 6-11 the next etc it seems.

If you set the first fight, it will use the same defense in rounds 2 and 3 if you don't change it.

Although, occasionally, the bug where it sets absolutely nothing and gives your opponent free points still pops up. And you can't use those characters on attack either.
