Squad arena rank?

Can someone explain to me hour the ranking system works? I've been playing for months and I'm like 900. My friend started the other day and he's just like rank 700 lol getting more crystals and tokens then me.. Is there like a percent tile? Or it is based on just sheer win/loss ratio?

You swap arena ranks with whoever you beat. Say you are rank 16 and you beat rank 12. now you are rank 12, and they are rank 16.

Also, there are different leaderboards so your friend is probably ranked higher now because he started later and is on an easier leaderboard.
