Rings around character photos

Im curious to know what the different colured rings around some character photos are. Ive seen green blue and purple. No idea what they stand for. Thanks

They are gear level.

They represent the character's gear level. As it increases the ring changes color and new shapes are added.

Gear 1 - white
Gear 2-3 - green
Gear 4-6 - blue
Gear 7-10 - purple
Gear 11+ - gold

11 is still purple, 12 is gold
