I am about to promote him to 6*. I believe he's still useful just not as he was during Jedi-era. He affects DS Battles a lot though, so I would still put points into his promotion. Metas are changing, STH is popular now, who knows if he's still going to be in the next era.
I have a 7* Sid and he's mainly B-squad galactic war for me. Because of his rugged survivability he can be handy in the Darkside missions too. He may be useful in arena until you reach a little higher level. I think not very many high ranked players use him in arena on mature servers anymore.
