When does gs get good?

So I just farmed geo soldier to 6 stars gear 8 and tried him out. He does nowhere near the damage I see him doing in arena, so wondering when exactly does he begin to do some serious damage. Is it a must for him to be 7 star gear 9??

Run him with a Poggle lead for maximum impact.

Really gs is pretty mediocre but not bad still hits over 12k with special with omega add if he calls rey its a kill!
