Countering when opponent has taunt

Just noticed that if an opponent has taunt, like Chewy Poe or RG, if another opponent attacks your toon that has counter (say Dooku or 5s) then the counter hits the taunting toon and not the attacker. I could swear that until recently the attacker would get the counter attack. Am I crazy? Saw this in GW FWIW

Its happened since the last update. Common tactic now is to taunt with STH then attack dooku. His counters do little damage and fill up your turn meter.

And I just noticed the exact opposite. My RG had taunt active, yet dooku counterattack hit the char I used to attack him instead of RG. Happened more than once in Gw..

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but a counter attacks can hit either taunts or exposed? Or is that just the Gama Guards in raids?
