He is decent as cannonfodder in GW table. Also in the event tank gear he serves his use. But he is far underwhelming and I honestly expect they boost him a bit next update.

Don't bother wasting resources gearing, or leveling him in any way. IF he is buffed, then you're a step ahead simply in having him. But with the scarcity of many resources, especially credits and ability mats, gambling on him when there are so many other sure fire toons would be foolish in my opinion.
Maybe if they give Mace a passive ability to take out bounty hunters in one hit, he will find some sort of niche outside of PvE. It would just have to be a suicide attack, since he's not worth much alive anyway.
