Hello fellow players !

Im here since the servers went live back in November. I went through all stages of development in this game. Bariss, Poe etc. I end up first in most of our guild raids (yes T7 since pretty early)

I am a competitive gamer, and this game i really liked. I was actually promoting the idea in this very forum that its not an exclusively p2p game. It had a decent mix of everything (mostly pve) and some cool animations and characters of one of my favorite franchise. Then again, there are 939402349302423 Star wars games out there.

I FEEL like an **** because i let my self being Cheated and mocked by the industry

Its my fault totally. There are many ugly and bad people out there that want to scam you off your money, and I should be a lot more careful.

THIS GAME FEEDS OF ADDICTION, its not just pay to win, its compete with the rich or with people with addictive personality.

Its my science. I work in addiction treatment and research and all I can say is CG is using all the dirtiest tricks in the book to get you off your money. You know sleazy insurance salesmen banging on your granmas door? Kinda like that, but A LOT more educated from new research on electronic media and gaming. And we all know this industry is unregulated even though it uses human behaviour and psychology and addiction management to make you pay hard.
I say pay hard because its not about paying 60e for a full game (even 15e DLCs) OR spend for aesthetical items or progress like other games.
I say pay hard because this Company and their financial psychologists* use their knowledge to make some people pay an insane amount of money. Like in the thousands or at least hundreds. The whale situation. People like that exists in the world, rich or people with addiction problems (i know people who got loans to spend 25k in clash of clans, sick people)
BUT, do you want to play a PVP game with people that can just win no matter your time effort passion investment because they can or are unable to control their insane amount of spending? And you play in the same league mind you. Theres isnt a tier system of progress like in World of Tanks or Warships (planes too). You play with all the people who spend insanely because they CANT DO OTHERWISE if they end up in an addictive cycle, or because they are rich.

So for any new players, or old players who spend no more than any other pc/console game (10-60-100euros), Play this game without misconceptions. Its there like a fruit machine with the facade of mobile game. Its made to make people feel powerful over others when they spend an insane amount of money. And it wants your indirect advertisement by including you, or by making you like its pixels feeding of George Lucas ex IP.

Be educated be free

-An old gamer

*PS Dont have high hopes for my industry, psychology. There were prominent psychologists which worked with CIA to create new tortures and they are now facing the court.

Yea thats a good look on the intricacies on some fremium models. SOME, not all. The one that its completely unethical is the Feed on people with problems or rich by promising them a feeling of power over other people . A competitive drug festered by you paying the dealer to beat others

Anything that involves making a lot of money tends to be a bit lacking in morality. "Pecuniam radix malorum est", as some old Roman bloke once said.

In before close....sadly this is so, so true and is making me take a second look at my own spending habits. Namely....the raid gear for 10 bucks a pop in the store. You setting yourself behind if you don't buy it.

It's like the wild west for free to play games right now. No real rules or regulations, just mega corporations seeing how far they can push the envelope and still keep a game running.

It reminds me of the early days of the traditional mmorpg. It hit it's climax with wow, and I can honestly remember thinking to myself "I'm not sure I want to play a game that isn't subscription based ever again". At the time it brought so much more to the table. No hacking, no cheating, endless hours of gameplay that was constantly being updated. It was very appealing.

But time moves on, and almost every other mmo went f2p with great success, and so the model was born. Mobile games made for a perfect platform, and mega capitalists found a way to extort it.

I hope that this model is a flash in the pan, and that people wise up and stop playing games like this just like they eventually did with wow. Sure there are a handful of sub based mmo still, but over all lots of us have moved on. I just hope it's the case with this as well.

I mean... You could just play and not worry about being The Best of the Best of the Best. You could just worry about doing as best you can with what you have, which means if you want to pay, pay. If you don't, then don't.

I bought some stuff early on to make the initial grind easier, but haven't spent anything since April. If you factor out the Earth Day event, I think I've spent maybe $60, which isn't bad at all considering how much time I put into the game.

Long story short--if you want to pay, then pay. If you don't or can't, then don't. Don't angst over it, dude.

So... Be behind? I don't get the problem. I don't mean to troll or be a ****, but just... Be behind. Being #1 on the board doesn't mean anything.

It is sad that some people have addiction problems and uncontrollable compulsion.

Try doing 3 arena fights, win or lose then put the phone down. Do that a couple days. U will realize you are no worse than you were before. Game is molasses for everyone. The whales even get larger and larger road bumps. And they are in the same boat as f2p, compared to the bigger whale.

I used to have addiction problems. I am recovered. And I can still "take one drink" and be totally fine. It is possible to overcome it, but if u are spending money u vannot afford, please seek help!

It doesn't mean anything to you or I, but some people have real problems and can't stand to see themselves behind others. I'm fine staying in the top 20-50, but others have deep psychological problems that are being preyed upon.

That's like blaming the bar for someone's alcoholism. Worse than that, because at least a bartenderr has to look the alcoholic in the eye to give their drink.

The bulk of players kick a few bucks here and there, or spend an amount that they can afford.

Interesting vid. Based on their analysis, I'd certainly say SWGOH is a 'responsible' freemium game. Whales can spend huge amounts all at once to unlock and, to some extent, gear up new toons as soon as they are released, while casual spenders can throw in a few bucks and reap the rewards pretty quickly, without feeling pressured to spend more to keep up. On the other hand, I've quickly dropped most other freemium games I've picked up within a fortnight, making it a bit hard for me to compare

Virtually all form of consumerism is feeding a form of addiction. Addiction to salt, sugar, chocolate, alcohol, etc. The commercials are designed by psychologists, to make us want things. We may think we are not affected, but it works. Think how casinos are designed, dark, no windows, no clocks, so people loose sense of time.

Freemium model is just more insidious because it also feeds on our desire to collect things. Before it was baseball cards and other collectibles.
