Speed Mods Challenge unlocks after completing Stage 4 Mod Battles instead of Stage 8

So I just finished off Stage 4 of the Mod battles and discovered that, in addition to the Critical Hit Mods Challenge unlocking, the Speed Mods Challenge also unlocked. I was not expecting that to unlock until finishing Stage 8.
Is this a known issue, and will I be considered an exploiter if I do the Speed Mods challenges before I complete Stage 8 of the Mod battles? Has anyone else run into this? I think I'm going to hold off doing any of them until I either complete Stage 8 or hear otherwise that it's OK.
