Another noob question

As someone who just started recently, and just unlocked GW. What is the difference between retreat and force-close everyone's been talking about and what do they both do?

I see a retreat button when I press the settings gear.

As of yesterday, absolutely NOTHING.

So when you retreat now, the enemy squad just starts fresh and you still keep your damage?

Both reset as if you never started. For that battle not the whole GW.

That's what I woulda figured. I must be doing something wrong then. I just retreated Bc lumi was about to fall. Started the battle over and all my characters were exactly the same health as before the retreat.
