Orange gear...

Can anyone tell me why orange gear is around please?..
I see it's a kind of slot filler for things that aren't in game yet, but to be honest I was under the impression that the only thing that changed in gear as you went up the levels was the quantity of what was required for each item...

I believe its post lvl 80 gear so not yet available

I think it's golden rather than orange
