If I'm looking for a particular piece of gear, is it more likely to drop from a higher level battle, i.e. one that costs 8 or 10 energy, than one that only costs 6?
If you are looking for a particular piece of gear sometimes you are better off holding back from using refreshes, saving up crystals, and just buying the item in shipments.
I'm sure it's just RNG, but I seem to notice that if the item is the first one listed as a reward, it drops less frequently than if it is listed further down the line. So for some low-mid level gear, the higher energy cost would be better. But if it's the first item listed as a reward, you're better off going for the lowest energy cost to get more chances.
