Speed mod challenge help

I know level 5 is required. But gear is really needed cause I don't want to waste gear on crap toons. Will 8 be ok.?
Do I have to go higher than 5 star?
(Obviously I have rey maxed)

One of my mates did it with

Rey - max - lvl 80
Poe 7* G8 - lvl 70
RT- 5* G7 - lvl 70
RP - 5* G7 - lvl 70
Finn - 5* G7 - lvl 70

He said it took his best mods, and a **** ton of attempts, but he was able to 3* it.

cuz rey can one shot with leverage. i 3*ed it when she only brought finn to yellow.
