Is the best way to have ships better is to had the character they're associated with higher level/gear/star? Or leveling the ship up?

But all those things increased the stats of the ship.
Characters gear and level increase the crew contribution.
Charaters mods increase the crew contribution.
Ships level increases the ships contribtion
Ships stars increase the crew contribution.

From what I can tell they are all important. Even a characters leader ability level affects crew contribution to stats.

Still learning about ships. Don't totally understand the contribution from both character and ship

It is some arbitrary formula in the back ground.

It is not a specific stat for stat thing, increasing speed thru mods does not increase the speed of the ship directly.

Easy answer is the toon. Only because at this point the that has multiple uses where the ship only has 1.

Almost everything you can increase on the toon including mods will increase crew power which makes the ship more powerful.
