Synergy help

I've been playing for about a month, spent a little $ and been building characters.

I'm just not getting the synergy thing, and feel like my focus isn't right. Actually I kind of chance focus on a daily basis and am looking for some advice on what to actually focus on moving forward. I'll list some of my players and their levels:

As you can see I was all over the place and realize I need to focus on a couple of teams to do well.

Any help would be very much appreciated
