On defense, if Geo Soldier (the ship) is by himself he doesn't use his crew ability when it's off cooldown despite that being a far more powerful attack than his basic (albeit without the turn meter reduction). It would make sense that he would try to use his powerful ability even without the assist; Biggs (the pilot) already does this when he's the last man standing.
