Gear - Future Outlook

I understand that there have been discussions about the long road to gear characters, however I only have my main arena team (Rebels) to gear 8. Gearing them to 9 seems time consuming and difficult let alone getting them to 10 or even 11. I just wonder the opinion of putting in the time to gear them or will those characters not be upper level characters by the time I complete it. I have had a hard time focusing with gearing rebels, keeping an eye on empire, and trying to level up scoundrels.
