This is the first time that I actively participate in a forum linked to a game. More than anything, I am dazzled by the amount of money whales/dolphin/P2P/P2W/whatever people are called spend. I am not judging anybody here, but I am genuinely curious about the amount people spend, and how they can justify spending this amount for a mobile game.
So here is my question to you: How much have you spend to this point on the game and why did you spend that amount of money?
Thank you for your answers. I'm sure I will be quite surprised by the results and by what people will say.
How Much Money Have You Spent On This Game And Why? 209 votes

What dazzle me is when I see these packages... 140$ for the Klyo Ren and Finn pack. 85$ for QGJ and Anakin... Hell, a whole gaming console costs around 300$ and I am being asked to pay 60$ for 2 characters that are incomplete in a farming game where I cannot play as much as I want due to necessary energy exhaustion to play?
When we compare this to other games, a full game such as Fallout, is about 70$. The content is way more for less money. In the same way, If one of my favourite games on Playstation or PC would release a 100$ DLC, I would simply never buy it. How come people drop so much money in these types of game?
but I think there are people that have spent well over 5k..
Why: well games is what I do for fun on everyday basis, and I love star wars
This is kind of like asking someone why they would spend twice the amount for a first class plane ticket. We're all going to the same place right?
The simple answer: because I'm playing a better version of the game and I can afford it.
I don't mean to sound snobbish or condescending, just calling it like I see it.
Overall, not really worth it. The good characters I got I have not been able to promote (Lando, Maul, ...). Only way to do so is buy more packs, and I ain't going to gamble anymore.
I am stuck with about 20 characters at level 1 that I will not promote (Ewok scout, IG100, mob enforcer,...).
No worries I don't think you sound snobbish at all and I think I get your point. However, when we consider these offers in relation to the gaming industry, the product offered for the money asked is simply not equivalent to when you buy a full game with an actual story, better graphics, etc... for less money.
I understand why someone would buy a first class plane ticket. Yes, there is a part of "I can afford it" for sure, but you do also get a proper service that is fitting for the amount you paid (although in North America we get pretty much screwed in terms of airplane companies).
Is it because this type of games fall into a niche and hooks specific types of players? I know I am clearly addicted to this game. I haven't gone into bed befor 1-1:30 am for the last 10 days now because I am waiting for the refresh of GW...
I'm honestly baffled at the # of people willing to spend $60 for a few pieces within a mobile game. $60 gets you an entire PS4 game. Reading about people spending hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on this makes me think we've lost all sense of value. Maybe they're all multi-millionaires & money is no object but then I doubt it because most millionaires are good with money. Lets put it in perspective: before you got wrapped up in rankings, climbing the ladder, build-build-build, & collect-collect... Regardless of what it included (every SW character ever), would you have paid $60 for a game on your phone?
I gotta give EA credit. Dangle a carrot, withhold something people want & get them all frothy - then 'step right up & buy my snake oil!' Wish I'd thought of it 1st. One guy said "I can afford it" which is great - to each his own. I could afford it too but I'd rather buy a jet-ski (so I did) and when I get tired of it I will sell it.
I'll probably get kicked off the forum for such rationale. Nice knowin' ya
P.S. For the record I'm lvl 69 so obviously I like the game but lately it's more irritation than entertainment. I bought the original $5 21 day crystal pack. $5 is reasonable for a game on my phone. Am I really in the minority here thinking like this?
P.P.S. If many of you would lock the old credit cards away for a while, eventually their pricing would descend from the stars. Yoda for 5 bucks would be reasonable.
It all comes down to the customer's perceived value of the product. I made a heavier up-front investment to unlock more characters and now am cruising on about $50/month. I used to be a hardcore PC/platform gamer and would spend at least that much per month between my MMO subscriptions and new games....plus money spent to upgrade my PC or buy a new console. Now since I travel 50% of the time for work, this just isn't practical so mobile became my new platform.
I agree with you that spending thousands is (for me) excessive, but there are people who don't see it that way and have no problem spending it. There's no right or wrong answer. It all comes down to what you want to get out of this game and how much it is worth to you.
Trust me, these guys are making money hand over fist & are laughing at the fact that they can make so much money out of so little. The game is highly repetitive & set up to cater to our primal & sometimes dark desires... Revenge, domination, superiority, boredom etc. It's reward based, like slot machines; all we are really doing is punching buttons & being awarded bright shiny things... Like in a casino... Or fish chasing fishing lures hahaha. They take our love of Star Wars & use it against us. Many people spend more than the cost of a complete gaming system (TV included) on this game; the developers are making plenty of money.
No way I'd ever buy for chrome packs. If I want to gamble I'd go to the casino. And I'd sure as hell never pay $60 for a 4* character and a couple useless ones. That's a full new game. Or a lot of cheap games. $20 is the most I'd ever pay for a character pack and I doubt they'd ever release one that cheap again nor has there been a pack released even worth that price
None of it matters, anyway. The majority of the profit from these games come from less than 10% of the players. It's gambling, plain and simple
I would start buying with such prices. I rather buy food for a month than wasting it into a game that you do not even own. The whales make mobile games impossible to fully enjoy. I guess not everyone cares about their money.
(Btw, when you are a noob and F2P with less than full teams of light + dark side, those crystals go a LONG way.)
I'm way over 100 hours now, though.
~$20 for an iPad game that has given me 200+ hours of entertainment is more than reasonable.
$20 is pretty standard for a good indie game and $50+ for a big studio game, so I try to stay in line with those prices.
Subscription MMORPG (which is rare now) is $50 + $15/month or $50 plus expansion costs...I feel like I play this game almost that much, so I could see being at the $100 level for 300 hours of entertainment, that's reasonable.
More than that (let alone $1000) is difficult for me to comprehend. But to each their own.
Edit: Google "marginal utility." It explains all of this.
I'm thinking if I should get the $60 Jedi pack lol.
Because I can afford it.
Because killing Ewoks brings me endless joy.
+1
As for why, because I'm impulsive and fortunately that equates to about 3 days work so he cost to me personally is low compared to others.
Will not spend this week after they nurfed Poe and basically killed my team. As is bad chromium packs have basically left me with 20+ 3-4 star characters that are unplayable as it is always about the best characters on your team (or loosing.). Plus, right now with energy price doubling after every couple of turns basically no one can afford anything after some time as prices rise exponentially... It becomes unreasonable to pay 900 crystals for 112 of energy or basically 5-6 "spins" that give u one purple gear...
