The energy maximum should be doubled and the energy refresh rate should be halved.
One or the other is was more likely than both, but unfortunately neither of those is going to happen.
They have already adjusted the character drop rate to speed up roster growth, which does have a secondary effect of giving more time/crystals/energy towards gearing up older toons you may be working on. They also said this will allow them to look at the gear economy too.
Those changes seem to be the way they are looking at changing the pace of the game, not through the energy system.
at least the max energy should be higher, so that you could stay longer offline without losing energy...

Unfortunately, due to the metrics most games use, log ins are counted for "game health", that is not likely to happen. This is why games offer things on timers or at multiple points in a day, they want you to check in.
This is also a "reward" for commitment to the game, for those who can do it.
