Confused by fleet arena

Something happened today in fleet that I'm not sure is legit, but I'd like to run it past the community to make sure I'm not just salty.

I finally managed to take 1st for the first time ever, displacing our resident kraken with a 160k GP advantage (he's been sat at 1 since the first day I got into the shard in January, there was one guy who could occasionally knock him out but since the last Chimaera event he literally hasn't budged until now): I took this screenshot and did a happy dance:



Note that I am 1, "Thrawn" is 2 and "Tarkin" is 3.

I come back with 3 minutes to go and find that I'm locked in a battle. I assume that QQ is battling me back (not his payout so kind of douchey but there's not much I can do about that). So I refresh away and notice that while my stated rank in the top left corner stays at #1, I have the option to battle QQ who is now apparently at #1. I assume this is because he's literally just won the battle and for some reason my rank needs to refresh so I close fleet and reopen it to find this:



Now I'm in 3, Thrawn is 1 and Tarkin is 2!

This makes no sense. The only way for this to happen is if Thrawn and Tarkin BOTH beat me within that 3 minute timeframe. This seems highly implausible to me, especially given that:

1. It's neither of their payouts
2. Thrawn literally hasn't budged from 1 for a month so it seems odd that he'd be so eagle-eyed about his spot, especially given that he's in an East Asian guild where the time was 3am
3. Tarkin has never sniped me before my payout before

Could there be foul play at work or am I just salty?

Oh. Things have changed since I was 16. They're showing for me. Any suggestions for an alternative?

Well when you took 1, there was 10 minutes left. You check in 7 minutes later and you're in a battle.

In those intervening minutes, tarkin could have beaten thrawn as well, following your example. Tarkin is now 2, and Thrawn is 3. Thrawn checks in to see himself at 3rd, and then attacks you to get 1 back. Boom. The order you see.

This is theoretically true and an option I hadn't considered but is unlikely because why would Tarkin target Thrawn at 2 when I'm a much squishier target at 1? Also I don't think Tarkin can beat Thrawn - at least he hasn't yet in the time since the Chimaera event.

Yeah - and you hadn't either until today. Maybe he was intimidated by the high GP? Maybe he's tried a hundred times and today RNG finally smiled on him?
It's hard to say, but I find that scenario more likely than some wierd hack.

There are several places I have seen that players insist on sitting at first all day long, takes patience to take them down

Yep, we have one of those on our shard, sort of. He doesn't do it for 24 hours but probably a good 12 hours at least. And he's told us (through a guild mate) that he doesn't want to join our discord to coordinate payout times either. What a fun guy to have around.

On reflection I think this is the most likely scenario - Tarkin jumped at the chance to take 1 even though it was the hour after his payout, and then Thrawn retook what he sees as his rightful spot. It's just odd how fast it all happened. I suppose Thrawn being in a Taiwanese guild doesn't necessarily mean he's in an East Asian timezone, but I always assumed that was the case.

I'm going to assume this was legit for now, if I ever manage to take 1st again I'll try to establish a pattern before I jump to the conclusion of cheating.

Also I guess it's time to make a concerted effort to find my fleet shard! B******s need to learn to share.

+1 on finding your fleet shard. I used to have to worry about getting sniped during my drive home. No longer.

This is actually a minor bug in fleet arena, I believe. If you get defeated while you're in the menu, your visible rank won't refresh properly, although your avaliable targets will. Not really a major problem, but it can be confusing.
