It's definitely skewed towards spirit, which doesn't surprise me since Zombie is so much better.

Would it be asking too much to be able to choose our shards in events like this? Or am I expecting too much to have the devs actually like their player base?? I'm confident the frequency of the event would prevent disruption in other parts of the game.
Well spirit definitely does have a higher chance of dropping

You will never convince me the RNG isn’t intentionally designed to be “streaky” in this game. It’s why I have 1200 furnaces but can’t get a scanner or droid caller. My last 8 attempts at least have given me spirit. Drop rates are probably 50% across the app, but I bet the distribution isn’t what you’d expect with true randomness, with more people getting heavy drops of one or the other than would be expected.
