Unlocking areas in Territory War

This is only my second TW, and I don't quite understand why the two areas in the upper middle on the map below are still inaccessible.



It seems logical that one would be able to cross into any adjacent area. Can you only progress from left to right? In other words, is conquering the two upper left areas the only way to have a crack at the other guild's fleet?

Yeah, left to right. Either of the front territories can give you access to the territories between ships and the bottom row. To get to the top row territories you have to defeat the left-most one on the top and work right from there.

Thanks It makes sense now. I was wondering if maybe a guild officer had to unlock areas that I'm allowed to attack or something.

Your logic is correct. But for some reasons the devs don’t want it that way. Left-to-right is the only way. And most guilds put their two best walls in front of ships..so if you’re a lower GP guild you'll seldom get to battle ships. At least that's how it is with my guilds bracket.
