Malak Gear 12 6*

Is this due to the Malak event shenanigans ,or is there something cool going on that I need to know about? I’m unable to make mine gear 12 due to the lack of being 7*.

Event shenanigans. They could revert stars but not gear apparently.

There’s a note here. Some people got to keep their Malak G12 even after he was reverted back to 6*.
