I think buffs like defense up can remove the death mark (just in case he resists your stuns).

Stun or meter drain. RG's basic attack can stun him and Teebo's basic can drain his meter, essentially locking him down.

Aaah thanks guys. I realized after I died a couple times and that Mace was behaving like Yoda in his event that I must have unlocked the next level of this challenge without realizing it (maybe I looked away). I used to just auto this challenge and win, now I'm grappling just to finish haha.
