Cubs did a bid last week with 4 whales, did you see it?
One has spent over $50,000 on the game. They want to be segregated from FTP players!
If you spend money ON A GAME, it's a choice! So why should your choice control the game?
Whatever someone spends should not effect the game. You spend for a competitive edge that should be enough. They went on to say,"CG should throw FTP players a bone"!! As if that's a positive..
INSANE imo

Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength. As he went away, the fox remarked 'Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes.'
Did you even watch the video? None of your ramblings reflect that video, as it was surprisingly positive towards the game's state, GLs, and the F2P/Spender relationship. This was even more reflected in Cubs' video from this weekend, which had a F2P/Dolphin/Whale/Kraken (nearly 100k spent). I would recommend watching that and actually paying attention this time.
Literally what?
Think about it. For that last 1M GP all those hard to get pieces of kit need to be bought.
But each to their own. As long as they arent stealing off their grandma then it's up to them.
It is up to them how they spend their money but we also have the right to look down on them for spending an outrageous amount of cash on pixels that’ll be forgotten in a few years.
I guess you have the "right" to look down on them for spending large sums of money on their hobby, but it makes you a pretty bad person imo.
Why does everyone suddenly get so high and mighty when someone with disposable income decides to spend it on a mobile game rather than any other useless hobby they could blow their money on?
Single malts, cigars, or even cigarettes. I’d say this can be considered healthier.
Thing is, most are just guessing what they’ve spent, including us whales. I’m guessing I’ve spent in the area of $50-75k, but I’ll never 100% know. I’d bet less than 1% of whales track their true spending.
Speaking of grandma’s, there was a player that stole credit from his family to fund this game. I don’t recall the exact amount, but it was something like $20k or more. When he got busted it all came crashing down.
There has been a huge shift in perpective. Fast forward a couple decades. The whole "instant gratification" thing has become almost defining of the generation.
I'm sure anyone with a lot of online gaming experience has had this conversation repeatedly. We don't need to get into all the contributing factors that brought us to where we are in the industry. ( though I guess we can if someone wants to have that conversation in PM). It is what it is. That is why some of that thought process still lingers today for those of us who experienced it.
What makes me sad is when others try to tell people what makes them sad. Its perpetual downhill cycle of sadness.
so...the same as everything.
It doesnt make me sad...they are sad. I made a post that explains the perspective better a few posts up from this one.
Another post about sadness, where does it end?
I dont think it does as long as someone thinks its ok to buy success. There is a reason why millennial are looked down on so much. Its not age, its perspective. This is a microcosm.
what if you have 5 yachts or 20 cars? SOAP can always...check, you know.
lol buying success. ok. brb gonna check the threads about how whales get beat all the time while figuring out your millennial angle. thought they were broke? so many contradictions it's hard to keep up
Pit of despair!
I don’t think the majority of whales in this game are millennials. Most seem to be in their 30s and 40s.
It’s how Maf... the world works
Why isn’t it okay to buy success? They earned that money, and therefore earn what they do with it. Beating your opponents with money when you are worse at something than them is a strategy, such as Bloomberg buying tons and tons of ads in the American election. He was terrible in the debate, but his money puts him higher up in the rankings. And he’s a big boomer.
That leads me to part two: I don’t know why you mentioned people looking down on millennials, and then mentioned age, but whatever you meant, this has nothing to do with millennials and newer generations. The fact that using the money you earned is a strategy is, well, a fact.
now buying things for a game is comparable to casinos? lol ok
Actually, exactly that... remember when they had to disclose the odds on loot boxes because they couldn’t access certain overseas markets. Now you know you are truly gambling when you decide to buy a variable drop box...
Value always needs to be viewed from the perspective of the purchaser. If it is worth it to you, why should anyone else tell you otherwise. Whether it's spending a million on a yacht, spending 50k on a game or $15 on avocado toast.
There are a lot of things in this world that make me sad, this, not one of them. Priorities I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My money, my choice.
