And seriously, why the hate? We are all fans of the same universe, we just love different aspects of it. Yes, some of us really love Thrawn, and is considered by the devs a fan-fav imo because there are much more people loving him than movie-fans acknkwledge. But that doesn't mean we should force others to love him, too...
And you, others.. just because this time we got a toon that you don't really know... this is a star wars game, not a game based on the movies.. I get it that there are some chars that you consider outsdanding and that should be in the game, but this is a game based on ALL canon, which sadly for you includes other media that you may not be familiar with...

The Empire's remenants used maps made by Thrawn to escape the Rebels and form the First Order.... so for all we know they may have encountered the Chiss Ascendency by the new Trilogy

Thrawn makes almost a throw away comment in the new book that as far as hes aware he hasnt ecountered anyone with powers like those Eli Vanto was telling him about (i can assume old Jedi stories) so they arent many Force sensitives or they dont understand it.
But they are known as Mythological powerfull Warriors in the outer rim regions that have encountered them so Thrawns likely not the only one with tactical genius among them.
And they only sent Thrawn to survey the new Empire so they like to keep thier distance

Which also included Prince Xizor, Guri, Dash Rendar, Mara Jade, and Talon Karrde.
Thrawn was legit until Disney takeover, but they obviously like him enough to allow him to be in their canon.
OT era fans stuck with the franchise even when most of the public had forgotten about it, late 80s to mid-90s, which only had books and videogames to expand what we saw in the 3 films. Thus we were able to have more of the universe for our characters until the prequel trilogy was made, which brought new fans and newer opportunities for more books and video games.
It's not elitism, we were given something awesome when nothing else existed, thus we cherish it. New fans, which is wrongly called "bang wagon fans", would never know of the dark period, nor feel the isolation of feeling what seemed like Star Wars was not a thing in the public eye.
Do you remember a time when Star Wars figures/toys were NOT on the shelves at a Wal-Mart or Toys R Us? I do. It was a period measured in years.
Heck, I'm still hoping to see the Otana, or at least a YT-2000 on-screen somewhere.
