New Rey's release will most likely introduce another titan to the meta, but she's not going to break any top-tier teams. I paid $20 to get CLS and I was happy with that. I'm going to miss the first release of new Rey, and I'm fine with that. I have enough powerful toons already to continue working on.

The arena has never been less diverse. There are only 7 toons in the meta. That's it. Only 7 toons have a usage rate over 9%. Seven. Saying "Empire teams exist" means nothing. THey aren't part of the meta.
I'm F2P and I guess the drop rate has been lucky for me. I started farming them as soon as they became available in cantina. Only need 48 more Han shards for both of them to be 7*s.
I call fake news on this. I did the exact same thing as you did, even emptied my hoard of crystals during the double drops, and still well short (VS Han 1/85, VS Chewie 12/65). And I've done the refreshes on them since they were released.
Same here. I saved my cantina drops and used 6 refreshes then 10 minutes later after changeover and double drops and did 6 more. I'm sitting at Chewy 3/85 and Han 58/85.

100% F2P, earning top 3 finishes in fleet (I planned way ahead when ships were released to pull that off), and top 50 finishes in a brutal arena shard (a couple of Team Instinct guys, and I think 1-2 Game Changers). It doesn't help that I stuck with my original guild through HAAT, and only started earning GK shards two months ago.
I disagree I guess. To me the Thrawn event was way more challenging to hit 7* the first time around than this is. We've all basically known for a long time now what we would most likely need for the event. Everyone should have used double drops for the vets and been saving their resources. Between arena and fleet arena Ive been able to save up a little over 18k crystals while still using 3 refreshes for each normal energy and cantina energy every day. I have a total of 288 shards to go in the next 15/16 days (last day of the event) to farm their shards in both cantina and shipments. It's all about planning your resources carefully. We've had way more time to farm the vets than we did the Phoenix toons. So if you're someone who's focused on the vets since the Rey event was announced then you should be fine even as a FTP player
Sorry but I disagree. As F2P I've been farming from the first day the vets were available, including double drops, and 3 refreshes per day. I have them both 5*. There is no chance I'll get both to 7* by the end of the event unless I spend money. Might get close but I can't see me doing it.
This is definitely a P2P toon this time around... or it is at least unattainable for 99% of the F2P player base.
couldn't agree more, i'm in the exact same position....planned way ahead, saved my crystals, farmed the vets since day 1 on cantina...at the end, doesn't really matter
People have known they would need these for awhile now, you could've been buying them when they came out for shipments since it was never unlikely they would be needed.

But this, this is some major kitten. I’ve spent 300 crystals every single day on cantina energy, using it only on starring my vets, and they’re still only 5 stars.
Unless you give out free shards, this is the first time I’m willing to call a character p2p, because Rey absolutely will be. There is no way somebody will be able to unlock the new Rey without spending money which is wrong and undermines everything I have enjoyed about this game for the last two years.

I am F2P. I generate about 900 crystals a day (400-500 from arena, 400 from ship arena, 25 from GW, and ~65 from daily activities). I started farming Vets on October 22nd, the first day I heard the rumor of Jedi Rey and the need for 7* vets. I finished 7 starring them on December 4th. 44 days of 900 crystals generated gets you 39,600 free crystals. From October 22nd until November 21st I bought 8 shards of either Vet in shipments at 640 crystals, except for 10 of those days that I bought an additional 4 shards at 320 crystals, for a total of 22,400 crystals and resulting in 280 shards. From November 22nd until December 4th I spent 700 crystals to buy 5 refreshes of Cantina energy, except for 11/23, 11/24 and 11/25 which I bought 7 refreshes at 1500 Crystals because of double drops for a total of 11,500 crystals. With daily free Cantina energy, that resulted in 10,080 Cantina Energy at 16 Cantina energy a sim, for 630 sims. I averaged a 1 in 3 drop rate, 3 sims at a time, resulting in ~270 shards (double drops really helped). I believe we got about 50 free shards for both Vets when they came out in their introduction events, resulting in 100 free shards.
So it is possible to be F2P and have 7* Vets in time for the event.

I am definitely not the strongest in arena or ship arena. But finding your shard mates on Discord or Line and communicating with them to work cooperatively can do wonders to get you into top 5 even if your team isn't that strong. If you are not P2P, this game requires a lot of time commitment, communication and resource management. If you don't want to do those things, that is your choice. This is a P2P game, like it or not, its how they get a paycheck and keep shareholders happy. But it is possible, with a lot of effort, to be F2P and still get the same access to some of these top items.
Complete nonsense. You literally said you get 300-400 shards from arena, which means you are TOP 3. And if you are getting 400 shards from ship arena you are THE TOP PLAYER. So don't lie and say you aren't the strongest. The shard levels you claim to be farming are only something you can get if you ARE one of the strongest.
I share payout with only one other person and we cooperatively alternate for 1 and 2. When its my day to be one, the guy sitting in 1 from the payout hour before kindly helps my lackluster team take 1. Once again cooperation. Sometimes the other guys who I can't beat will move out of my way on my climb. Once again cooperation. I drop to about 36 within the next 12 hours each day and on the rest of the climb have to pick and choose my opponents very well as half of them I can't beat. I focus my energy primarily on having 5 strong characters for arena. While I've unlocked almost all characters over time, I can not solo Rancor, going through my entire roster gets me about 1.8 million points on Tank Raid, I don't have CLS unlocked. I just prioritize and allocate my limited resources and rely on cooperation.

I would argue this is among the least diverse arena has been in a while now. Before CL cake to the game both my shards (main account and alternate account) had a ton of diversity in arena. Now it's all CL lead or GK/Zarris team. At least in the top 50 that is. Anything under the top 50 has always been diverse.

its not about the meta. It’s about long time and new players alike, not being able to unlock the characters they like whether they spend $25 of their paycheck or multiple hours of their day supporting EA’s game. The developers have absolutely no respect or care for their dedicated players.
You might be able to argue she is ptp right now, even though you could have been farming the required toons for the past few weeks with a 2 day double drop, but she will be easily ftp accessible next time she comes around. All toons required are attainable without spending any money at all; just not for those that didn’t pre-plan this time around.
I knew this was going to happen, so I didn’t even bother to farm the Vets.
I’ll just take my time and farm them when I can and get Rey in about 4-5 months.

TLDR: So yeah, in order to grab the most recent characters as F2P you have to be ahead of the curve. Way ahead actually. You gotta surpass your F2P peers and manage to get more resources, and manage those resources well enough.
