I almost defeated the enemy leader’s apprentice
And pushed the limits of my code
I tried to capture a source of enemy funding
And died to someone I advised
    Who am I?

  • I worked to protect
Then someone helped me change sides

A master starfighter pilot was I,
    Fighting through space and sky.
When a truth was revealed, and disaster loomed,
I fought to stop it, but I was doomed.

A menace I am to the settlers on our world,
They wanted a war, and so a one unfurled.
Though the results brought my kind nothing but pain,
A truce was made, and peace was gained.
I've found this whole experience to be very enlightening.

This might be a stretch, which means that I'm probably wrong, but it sounds suspiciously like the old EU (now called Legends) novel "Truce at Bakura". My guess is Dev Sibwarra.

  • Elke Vetter. Sorry it took so long to answer. I was out of town for a while.
  • Our team always risky
    Yet we always escape trouble
    My senses are extreme
The rest of our team are "different"
    They help us stay alive
We lost one of our own
    But we're still going strong.

Hunter… I think. The team would be the bad batch and they lost crosshair.

I'll take one more stab at it and say Jacen Solo. Otherwise, I'm gonna need another clue.

    Desert sands and fiery sky,
On the sands we are born, under the sky we shall die.
We rule our lands through strength and fear,
Yet there is only one sound that strikes fear in us when it we hear.

When a settler wronged my people, I led them to war,
Yet the costs of fighting almost drove my kind to nothing more.
A red crystal in place of an eye,
Strikes terror in the hearts of my victims before they die.

  • Is the species tusked raiders? Then the character might be Asharad Hett?

When the war reached my homeworld,

And they restored peace to my town.

You realize that one can throw a proverbial rock and hit a Star Wars character that fits these clues, right?

I'm gonna start with Hera Syndula.
