Personally I'd rather sink 20 large into a '59 Les Paul.

Never played a real '59, alas. But I did once get my hands on a pre-war D-28 for about 30 minutes.
Should be 2500, 5000, 7500, 10k, 15k, 20k+ options.
Im 5k+ in and feel cheap compared to many of my guildmates...
I fully agree. 20k, 25k and 30+k should be added in. Beyond that would be pretty unimaginable. However for those who have minimum 40 toons maxed level and geared would have spent at least 20k and above.
I spent a couple hundred on the game, but didn't feel like the results were worth the cash. Then I decided that if wanted to spend more I'd build and sell a custom 1911. Now I'm out more cash, have an irritated wife and a toy I don't want to sell.

That'd by my next priority. It was unearthly.
I have by far spent more than 20k. I know a few others in 30k region.

Honestly at some point I'm not sure what you get game wise for the $$. There's only so many worthwhile characters.
Sure you can spend your money how you choose. But you are defined by your choices, and those choices can make you a bad person.
If a homeless person gives you a downer do something about it with all the piles of cash you have to waste on a mobile app.
