Hate this. I can’t see any use for having the ability to buy other players packs. I think a point has been missed.
Making jar jar, the most reviled character in the franchise, a legend makes no sense. Battle for naboo could be forced fun but this is in no way giving the people what they want.
    Massive disappointment!

Again, Jar Jar is not a Galactic Legend... He is a Legendary Character. There's a difference.

    He's a legend...ary

Not exactly mind blowing, but overall decent. I was expecting a new GL too, but I don't mind not getting one. The gifts seem like a waste of dev time but who knows, maybe the krakens will actually use it.

GL's are announced over the Summer, so expect in June we'll get the word on who's coming. Most likely it'll be GL Revan? Hopefully they do it right and he's a neutral GL because he should be a neutral character.

What makes you think that Revan is most likely? Separatists still lack a GL and it would fit with the prequel stuff we are getting now.

What Separatist would you consider a "Galactic Legend" though? We asked for Revan previously, there was already a plan for a Revan Reborn character from years ago. A few content creators are speculating that is likely, so that's quite possible to happen.

No one knows for sure until it gets announced though. So we shall see. And the last three GLs have been announced over the Summer and released around when school starts up again. So it's a good possibility that cadence is going to happen again.

Darth Tyranus? Forest outfit Leia is different enough too...

But Leia is a galactic legend level character. Is Darth Tyrranus really at that level of significance? He doesn't even make it through two full movies. Dooku is already Sith, already dark side, already separatist.

Leia is one of the original three, so is Luke. JMK is because of who he is. Jabba, very understandable to be a GL, same with SEE. (Yes, we know Rey and SLKR are galactic legends because the mouse deemed it so.) Lord Vader because he's Anakin Skywalker turned bad guy. They made Darth Vader a GL without being fully DV that we knew for years. While Count Dooku had a significant role to play during the clone wars series, he did that mostly as "Count Dooku", so what would be different and significant with Darth Tyrranus?

At that, compare him to Revan Reborn and the significance he played in the old republic.

Revan was in 0 movies, so by your own logic...

But Revan wasn't also a complete other character just taking off the mask to be a character that has equal activities and functions as Revan, like Dooku did. In the game Dooku already does all the things that Darth Tyrranus would do. (Which was the rest of my point you might not have read.) lol

And Leia has the same activities and functions in winter outfit as in forest outfit, but we got distinct versions anyway. Obi-Wan is both a Jedi Master and a General through the whole Clone Wars. Vader got a GL version based on a brief period of time between his fall and his more iconic suited version. The whole talk about "peak version" of characters for GLs is more of a guideline than a hard rule and reality is shaped by the current state of the game and its needs. The point is that Dooku fits the criteria for a Separatist GL (one of the top players in-universe and well known outside), another version could be justified by playing up his activities as a political leader over his combat skills, and the name Darth Tyranus can be used simply to make a clear distinction (although it would be a better fit the other way around).

In terms of GL speculation I think both Dooku and Grievous could make sense if there’s a separatist focus.
Dooku was the overall leader of the separatist faction, with Grievous being probably the most public battle commander.

I get that we have versions of both in game, but that’s true for several toons.
I could see both fit the bill for a GL and could as mentioned see the point of adding a GL to the seps, particularly if a few more toons are added after STAP.

You could say that about the Hutts, Ewoks, Tuskens, Neimoidians, Toydarians, and on and on we can go about most of the non human species in SW. People could even see the droids as slaves as they are bought and sold throughout the universe and are looked to be less than their living owners. People can find issues with a lot of SW not just Jar Jar and the Gungans.

Of course, and sometimes it would even be justified. I don't need to look for issues in my escapist entertainment, I was just answering your question.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I find it absolutely fascinating that people can overlook all of the other "problematic" racist undertones Star Wars has embedded in it, not to mention the countless instances of cultural appropriation, but find this one character to be the character that is their hill to die on, which in my opinion (and I recognize that it's my opinion alone) is a stretch to even connect the racial undertones of this particular character, relative to many of the others already established in both the universe and the game.

Again, I recognize this is my opinion and mine alone, but either you should be abhorred by all of the generalized racism in the franchise or just accept it all as it is, which is a science fiction story with a multi-dimensional universe that is created by pulling at many times from the not so flattering stereotypes perpetuated in western society as a whole.

Star Wars has made in recent times some massive advancements in properly promoting cultures throughout the world, but it undoubtedly still has a long way to go. I find the fascination with identifying Jar Jar as being the penultimate problematic character completely perplexing. If you don't like the character because of the goofiness that's one thing, but to single him out as THE problematic character seems a little misguided to me.

I for one am looking forward to filling another hole from the Star Wars Universe that currently exists in the game and hope that there are many, many more to come.

Less than enthused for these additions. I honestly hope this Gungan faction is an April Fool's joke. What about QoL improvements to mod inventory and manipulation (hello, I can't delete this mod bc it's in a loadout and I can't find it), feat counters in challenges, datacron UI and inventory, TW matchmaking and UI improvements - edit a team you accidentally placed or forgot a datacron for?

Not having enough content used to be a problem, but for some of us who have been playing long enough, I wish they'd address some of these comments/concerns/complaints before rushing out more bug-ridden material that's going to get nerfed or reworked because it wasn't properly tested.

It’s 2024. Racism is cringe. Phantom Menace relied on old fashioned down home racialised stereotypes - not problematic cultural appropriation or micro aggressions or any of the academic constructions of 2024 - it was base and embarrassing then and it hasn’t aged well. Also it wasn’t just the Gungans - Watto was even worse (even the Trade Federation didn’t fare well). Maybe it’s just generational but for those who remember what real racism used to look like, it’s hard to be too forgiving.

Not sure if this is the correct place i'm writing, but i wanted to gift my brother some of the lightspeed bundles, but he's shown as ineligible.. He's level 85, havent bought any lightspeeds prior and we're in the same guild, so i dont understand why he's listed as ineligible?
I made him test to see if he could gift me, but i'm listed as ineligible aswell - i have bought some lightspeeds before though which would make me think i should be eligible then?

    Lol.

Oh but hey, you can buy a guildmate AND yourself one omicron piece for 14.99! Isn't that exciting???

CG's pricing strategy is still ridiculous on certain items.

Like seriously, it’s a fictional race of characters that might be loosely based on a culture but that isn’t obvious to me and I’m really not sure how anyone would find the gungans offensive in any way.

Seems to me that people like to be offended by absolutely anything these days.

It’s not like jar jar was dropping the n bomb.

SO given the new raid coming can I make a suggestion CG? A lot of us are getting tired of the repetition of the raid. Even once a week it can be a slog and it's more a job than fun. You already save our highest raid score each time. Perhaps you just let us use our highest raid score to score each raid? So say we get 20.5 million total points. There really isn't much to do. I spend 45 minutes clicking buttons and going through motions. One click to reuse the last raid run helps offload that 45 minutes. especially during this week of conquest/TB. You know you have time crunch issues in your game when this week is called something similar to heck week.

....... Ya watching it as kid, i had no hint at all of what youre talking about. Even now idk what youre talking about. If youre looking for something to be racist then ok. What actually was racist was the Empire, all human 1 alien, FO, very modern, where was their diversity?

Anyways I'm excited for Gungans, more factions then better.

Had no idea he was a stereotype.

Are all the Gungan characters deemed offensive? Jar Jar is presented as a bumbling fool, but I don't recall the other Gungans being portrayed that way. In fact, Jar Jar is such an outlier in his community that he is banished and not respected. So, why is Jar Jar considered a negative stereotype for an entire culture when the in-universe species/culture he represents does not reinforce that stereotype?

I'm not even completely hating on the faction. I don't really think JJ is a Legendary-quality toon, but whatever, still not my issue. I welcome the content, just not now. Roll out the crate of fixes and upgrades we asked for first, that's all I want. I have never once seen a thread of "Please bring Jar Jar (Darth or otherwise, jokes) to the game" more numerous than "Dear CG, please fix .... *list*" Then roll out whoever, I don't care. At least it'll give me something to chase and upgrade and maybe find out that CG made them OP (like Inqs) because everyone hates on em. I'd love to find that out, but ffs, fix this - first.

Intent matters a lot, and I think there was clearly no malicious intent behind these characters from anyone involved. To some, Jar Jar's portrayal is offensive and draws on negative stereotypes of Afro-Caribbean people/cultures, and while that's clearly not the *intent* it's impossible to rule out that some of it (though I'll be honest, I don't think it's nearly as over-the top or blatant than you seem to) was rooted in harmful stereotypes.

I definitely think there's value in a reasonable review of this - not just in regards to TPM but in all media - that leads to a societal discussion pointed at improving media and bringing more care to the social implications of writing choices. But I also think there's value in understanding that this level of care and consideration wasn't something done or considered (not out of malice but simply out of the social ignorance of the time) by the people involved in TPM, to them Jar Jar was just a funny, goofy character that would make kids laugh, without taking the time to think about what society has taught them is "funny and goofy" and the potential problematic origins of some of those things. And I think there's in value in accepting that for what it is and moving on.

The way this discussion is often framed is harmful. Ahmed Best sunk into a deep depression in the years following his time as Jar Jar, and this was partially from attacks against him calling him an "Uncle Tom". If our goal is truly to make society better moving forward, is this kind of conflict in a community forum about a Star Wars video game really the way to do it?

I held hope that Jar Jar would never come to SWGOH, not because I think he's a racist caricature (I don't believe he is), but because I know there are those who do (and, frankly, some of those who do willingly prop him up as such and celebrate that) and I knew that introducing Jar Jar would stir this type of controversy up. And really, does the community need that?

So let's be the adults in the room. Let's choose to try to have an understanding that Jar Jar exists, and that he does not exist for nefarious purposes. Let's also try to understand that the origins of Jar Jar's portrayal have some negative reflections, not on the writers or actor, but on society at large and that we have the ability to learn from that and move forward in a better way. If we're glad Jar Jar exists ingame, let's be happy about that in a reasonable way that isn't 'dunking on' people who aren't. And if we aren't glad about it, let's not perpetuate the argument by bringing it up and voicing negativity when otherwise people are just happy their favorite character from childhood exists in the game.

People can be unintentionally racist without any malicious intent. I'd say that form of racism is immensely more common--and therefore problematic--in today's (US) society than overt, malicious racism. So if Jar Jar is problematic because of subconscious racism, or negative stereotyping, or whatever; then folks that see it should help those that don't understand what they're missing.

I had actually not heard of this controversy until this week. I did some Googling, and I'm still struggling to see the Jar Jar controversy as anything more than a stretch.

Or maybe...just hear me out here....maybe Jar Jar had nothing to do with racist stereotypes and George Lucas is a big fan of Mr Bean. The bumbling buffoon that somehow saves the day.

That or he deliberately acts like a fool so nobody suspects his true identity.
