I guess statistics show he is the most common droid people have and average highest shards so giving away his shards has lowest potential income loss bottom line.
Looks like ea wants us to use assist call heroes...

Oh well, gonna convert those shards soon.. Great for f2p and again not providing any excitment for their p2w players. We should be able to have 2 options.. A dark side and a light side hero.. Give us an option.. Even if many players would still complain, you provide options

It actually makes sense from business point of view - they add the shard shop, and at the same time they provide an easy way to get shards for a character that a lot of people already have at 7*.
